LEAM Organized Signing of 'Memorandum of Understanding on Principal's Recommended Special Scholarship Co-operation' between XJTLU and 10 Malaysian Secondary Schools

On February 26, 2024, at 10 am, the Life Education Academy Malaysia (LEAM) organized a signing and launch ceremony for the "XJTLU Principal's Recommended Special Scholarship Scheme" at The Ritz-Carlton Kuala Lumpur. This scheme provides Malaysian secondary school students with access to high-quality educational resources and admission opportunities at Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU) in Suzhou, China.
This initiative marks the first instance of a Sino-British cooperative university establishing a Malaysia-specific scholarship scheme for 10 schools in Malaysia. The program offers full and partial scholarships to students from these schools, with each full scholarship valued at up to RM260,000.
During the ceremony, XJTLU signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with LEAM and the 10 participating Malaysian secondary schools. Additionally, XJTLU presented plaques bearing the inscription "Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University Overseas High-Quality Student Sources Base" to these schools, symbolizing the commencement of their cooperation.
LEAM's President, Mr. Bock Chek Lim, highlighted the organization's commitment to promoting international education cooperation between Malaysia and China. LEAM will organize various activities to provide comprehensive admissions guidance and services to Malaysian secondary school students.
At the event, LEAM also presented Certificates of Appointment for LEAM’s Advisors to Principal Tay Keng Lee and Dr. Phoon Wing Keong.
Principal Tay Keng Lee, now an advisor, stated that LEAM aims to offer Malaysian students a platform for higher education counseling, enhance educational resource integration, nurture innovative talents, and guide young people towards international opportunities, particularly in China. This cooperation is expected to create more opportunities for students to study at XJTLU and develop into internationally competitive professionals.
Professor Qiuling Chao, Vice President for Student Affairs and Information, and Secretary of the Party Committee at XJTLU, emphasized the university's dedication to providing high-quality international education. She expressed hope that this collaboration will enable more Malaysian students to access top-tier universities abroad.

The signing ceremony was attended by representatives from 10 Malaysian secondary schools, including Chong Hwa Independent High School, Kuen Cheng High School, Tsun Jin High School, Hin Hua High School, Pin Hwa High School, SM Chong Hwa Kuantan, Catholic High School, SMJK Yu Hua, SMJK Heng Ee, SMJK Jit Sin.
Notable guests included: Dr. Xie Qijian, Director of the Student Affairs Centre of XJTLU, Ms. Helen Li, International Recruitment, and Development Manager, Mr. Tay Keng Lee, Principal and Dr Phoon Wing Keong, Director of Administration, Ms. Connie Fong , Project Director, Ms. Mia Choo, and the Headmasters, Counselling Officers, Teachers of the 10 Secondary Schools, and the Chairman of the SMKJ Council, Mdm. Lim Peck Poh, and President of Huaqiao University Alumni Association Malaysia, Mr. Soo Yew Guan were also invited to attend and witness the event.
